Mnogi od nas češu svoje oči i nekoliko puta u toku dana, često i nesvjesno.
Bez obzira na to da li smo umorni, da li osjećamo da su nam oči suhe, ili imamo osjećaj stranog tijela, češanje i trljanje oka najviše pomaže. Na žalost, ovo je jedan od najboljih načina za prenos mikroorganizama sa prstiju i ruku u oči.
Mikroorganizmi na našoj koži i rukama
Različite vrste mikroba žive na našoj koži svakodnevno, uključujući i naše lice i ruke. Ovaj mikroskopski ekosistem, poznatiji pod nazivom „kožna flora,“ može da sadrži i do hiljadu različitih vrsta bakterija, ali i viruse i ostale mikroorganizme. Neki od ovih mikroba su dobri nas i naše zdravlje, ali ih je većina ipak štetna, te mogu dovesti do infekcija, pogotovo ako dospiju do oka.
Prirodna odbrana oka
Oči su mnogo osjetljivije na djelovanje mikroorganizama od kože, ali nisu bez mogućnosti odbrane. Trepavice sprečavaju prodor veće količine bakterija, kao i treptanje. Nadalje, suzni film sa tri svoja sloja štiti rožnjaču od prodora mikroba i prašine. Međutim, kada trljamo oči, često možemo izazvati sitne promjene na površini rožnjače, te na taj način omogućiti mikroorganizmima da prodru dublje u oko i izazovu infekciju.
Zaštita očiju od mikroorganizama
Ponekad je trljanje oka neizbježno. Osobe koje nose kontaktna sočiva moraju dodirivati svoje oči svaki put kada ih stavljaju ili skidaju. Najbolje bi bilo smanjiti kontakt ruku sa očima koliko je god to moguće, ali ako je kontakt i nužan, najvažnije je temeljno prati ruke.
Nadalje, jako je važno održavati i higijenu noktiju kako bi se i na taj način spriječio prenos mikroba u oči. Zbog njihove dužine često ih je nemoguće adekvanto očistiti, a jedan od glavnih razloga zašto ljekari nose hirurške rukavice jesu upravo mikroorganizmi ispod noktiju. Ovo važi jednako i za vještačke, i za prirodne nokte.
