CENTURION PHACOEMULSIFICATION SYSTEM

Ultrasonic cataract surgery.

The gold standard in modern cataract surgeries remains the ultrasonic method – phacoemulsification. With the advancement of technology, better results are achieved every day, and the risks of the procedure are minimized, while postoperative recovery is significantly shortened.

The Centurion phacoemulsification system, developed by the American company Alcon, is currently the most advanced device used for ultrasonic cataract surgeries. There are numerous technological advantages of this device compared to its competitors, and we’ll mention just a few of them:

  • The torsional option of the ultrasonic probe, allows for a significantly lower temperature increase in the eye during cataract fragmentation, thereby reducing postoperative recovery time as eye swelling is minimal.
  • The ability to remove even the hardest cataracts with minimal energy.
  • Constant stability of eye pressure during the procedure, minimizing the chance of complications during surgery.
  • The ability to personalize the surgical procedure for each patient.

ARGOS BIOMETRY

Cataract surgery or surgery with implantation of multifocal lenses.

Before every cataract surgery or surgery with implantation of multifocal lenses, a series of diagnostic procedures is performed during the preoperative examination to ensure the best possible outcome of the surgery.

One of these procedures is ocular biometry, which involves a series of measurements on the eye to obtain the best calculation of the power of the intraocular lens that will be implanted in the eye to correct the refractive error for distance and near vision (multifocal lenses), or to enable the patient to see distance without glasses again (monofocal lenses in cataract surgery).
The most advanced device currently on the market is now also available here. It’s the Argos biometer, produced by the American company Alcon.

The advantages of this device are as follows:

  • 1.5 times faster measurement of eye parameters compared to other devices of this type, which shortens the time of the examination procedure itself. Twice as many measurement positions in the eye, providing much greater precision in calculation.
  • Highly sensitive OCT (OCT = Optical Coherence Tomography, detailed imaging of structures within the eye) which enables maximum precision in determining the position of both the crystalline lens and the intraocular lens to be implanted during the procedure.
  • Accurate determination of the angle of astigmatism (cylinder) on the cornea of the eye, making surgical correction of it highly precise.
  • Automatic transmission of all data to the operating room software, making the planning and process of the surgery much faster and simpler, both for the patient and the medical staff.

NGENUITY 3D VISUALIZATION SYSTEM

Digital visualization of the eye during surgical procedures.

The time has finally come to surpass the system of analog surgical microscopes and to take a step forward, towards a complete digital visualization system!

The Ngenuity 3D system is the pinnacle of technology when it comes to digital visualization of the eye during surgical procedures.

The advantages of this system are:

  • Much greater surgical procedure safety due to the surgeon’s ability to see even the smallest details on the eye, magnified to the level of viewing a TV screen image.
  • Three-dimensional eye visualization (3D vision).
  • Automatic acquisition of all necessary patient data, their eye, and preoperative measurements during the procedure itself.
  • Much better coordination with the operating room staff during the procedure, as Ngenuity allows them to live-stream the complete operation process on a 3D screen.
  • 5x greater depth of focus throughout the entire operative field, providing significantly better insight into details and reducing the need for microscope refocusing during the operation.
  • 48% larger image magnification of the eye provides more confidence in performing the most delicate phases of the surgery. Detailed eye insights not possible with an analog surgical microscope.
  • 42% increase in eye image resolution also enables the much safer performance of the most delicate phases of eye surgery.
  • Individual adjustment of eye image contrast for each surgeon according to their preferences.
  • Lower microscope light intensity providing much greater comfort to the patient during the procedure.

Pentacam® HR

Precise diagnostic data of the whole anterior segment of the eye. Measurements of Anterior and Posterior Corneal Curvatures.

Each surgical procedure must be thoroughly planned.
Preoperative examination of each patient is part of that plan. The largest
number of preoperative exams are done to the patients that will potentially
undergo laser vision correction, cataract surgery, or refractive lens exchange
to correct near vision.

One of the machines that helps in this process is Oculus Pentacam®
HR.

In just a few seconds, this machine gives us precise
diagnostic data of the whole anterior segment of the eye. Anterior and
posterior corneal curvatures are very important when assessing candidates for
the laser vision correction procedures because corneal thickness is one of the
key factors that need to be included in the final decision about the procedure.
Furthermore, the data from the posterior corneal curvature help with the
detection of corneal ectasia, particularly with keratoconus. The most important
aspect is that the machine itself can classify keratoconus just with the
acquired data. All this information can be helpful in taking further steps with
the treatment of ectasia.

The picture resolution with Pentacam® HR is five times
higher than the one gotten from the previous Pentacam® models. This unique
feature can be very useful with patient follow-ups after cataract surgery,
refractive lens exchange, and phakic intraocular lens implantation.

It is well known that glaucoma (high intraocular pressure)
is directly correlated with corneal thickness. Pentacam® HR measures the
corneal thickness and compares it with the measure intraocular pressure levels,
giving the exact value and compares it with the previous measurements.

Finally, Pentacam® HR can easily diagnose the density
and the type of cataract. This may be of great importance in preoperative
planning of complicated cataracts (old patients, mature cataracts), and
decrease the chance for intraoperative complications.
