Glaukom se može liječiti konzervativno (antiglaukomske kapi za oči), laserskim metodama ili hirurški. Nekada se navedene metode mogu i kombinovati.
Prvi metod liječenja glaukoma je uvijek antiglaukomskim kapima,na druge metode liječenja se prelazi onda kada antiglaukomske kapi prestanu djelovati, odnosno prestanu snižavati očni pritisak.
Metode laserskog liječenja glaukoma su:
- YAG laser iridotomija koja se primjenjuje u slučaju akutnog glaukoma zatvorenog ugla
- Selektivna laserska trabekuloplastika (Ellex) – primjenjuje se u liječenju glaukoma otvorenog ugla i ima za cilj poboljšati odvođenje očne vodice
- PLT Pattern laserska trabekuloplastika (Pascal) – slična SLT-u, ali najnovija još ugodnija i djelotvornija procedura s trenutno najmodernijim Pascal laserom
Lasersko liječenje glaukoma izvodi se u lokalnoj anesteziji, ambulantno. Sam postupak je bezbolan, traje nekoliko minuta i pacijent odmah ide kući.
Hirurško liječenje glaukoma podrazumijeva dvije metode:
- Trabekulektomija (konvencionalna filtracijska hirurgija)– kod ove metode formira se novi kanal za oticanje očne vodice
- Ugradnja express-mini glaucoma shunt-a (implanti za drenažu)- kod ove metode ugrađuje se specijalna cjevčica (implant za drenažu)
Operacija glaukoma se izvodi u lokalnoj anesteziji. Sam zahvat traje dvadeset do trideset minuta i bezbolan je. Nakon zahvata pacijent može isti dan ići kući.
