Can You Exercise After LASIK?
One of the best parts of LASIK is the freedom to live without glasses or contacts. But if you’re active, you might wonder: When can I work out again?
First 24–48 hours
Avoid exercise right after surgery. Your eyes are healing, and sweat, dust, or accidental bumps can cause problems. Rest and use your prescribed eye drops.
When to resume exercise
- Light activity (walking, stationary bike): Usually safe after 2–3 days.
- Moderate exercise (jogging, gym): Often safe after 1 week. Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes.
- High-impact sports (tennis, basketball): Wait at least 2–4 weeks.
- Swimming and contact sports: Avoid pools, hot tubs, and contact sports for at least 4 weeks.
Why these limits matter
During healing, your cornea is sensitive. Sweat, water, or impact can raise the risk of infection or injury.
Protecting your eyes
- Wear protective goggles for dusty or windy sports.
- Keep sweat out of your eyes.
- Use lubricating drops if your eyes feel dry.
