Hirurgija oka je prešla dug put u posljednjih 10 godina, posebno kada je u pitanju laserska tehnologija. Oftalmolozi širom svijeta, posebno oni u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama, smatraju da je LASIK hirurška metoda korekcije dioptrije znatno napredovala u posljednjoj deceniji.
Najčešće korišćena metoda laserske korekcije dioptrije je upravo LASIK metoda, a mnogo faktora koji utiču na pozitivan ishod ove metode je uznapredovalo, posebno brzina i preciznost lasera, te mogućnost boljeg remodeliranja perifernog dijela rožnjače. Moderni laseri opremljeni su i tzv. “eye tracking” sistemima, odnosno softverima koji prate i najminimalnije pokrete oka i sprečavaju djelovanje lasera na područje oka koje nije predviđeno za tretman. Kompletna operacija traje manje od 10 minuta i pacijent je već nakon 2-3 dana spreman da se vrati svojim svakodnevnim životnim aktivnostima.
Nadalje, tzv. “blade free” laser je zapravo najnovija metoda kod koje laser izvodi kompletnu operaciju uz minimalnu angažovanost hirurga, što zapravo dovodi lasersku korekcije dioptrije u novu eru medicine, odnosno u eru robotike.
Najveći napredak je zapravo ostvaren na polju prilagođavanja operativne procedure za svakog pacijenta ponaosob. Naime, današnja “wavefront” tehnologija omogućava predoperativno mapiranje tačno određenih dijelova rožnjače za koje se smatra da su uzrok nastanka dioptrije, te se u toku laserske procedure tretiraju samo te zone, a ne kompletna rožnjača kao što je to do sada bio slučaj. Prednost ove procedure je, osim u skraćenju trajanja operacije, i činjenica da se na ovaj način remodelira mnogo manja površina rožnjače za mnogo veći postoperativni efekat. U poređenju sa dosadašnjom “topoguided” LASIK metodom, “wavefront” zauzima vodeće mjesto, posebno kada je u pitanju korekcija astigmatizama.
